Any person involved in the treatment of recipients and donors (such as physicians, pharmacist, nurses, biomedical scientist, laboratory technologist, persons related to stem cell donor programs or pharmaceutical companies), who are involved in HSCT and agree with the purpose of the group can become a member. New members are admitted by submitting a membership application form to the Secretary’s Office. This application must include the signature of a PBMT member as a sponsor. The membership consist of:
4.1 Regular Members: Regular members shall be those scientific persons who are actively involved to the stem cell transplant work for at least two years and hold basic qualification in the related field. They can be physicians, pharmacist, nurses, biomedical scientist, laboratory technologist, persons related to stem cell donor programme. They shall be eligible to vote and contest in the relevant category of appointments. A proposed new member must provide a brief CV that includes professional qualification, current employment and place of work. Regular members must agree to abide by the regulations/bylaws of PBMT, to participate in scientific endeavors of the group, to have no criminal record, good ethical and moral standards as expected by professional societies.
4.2 Founder Members: Founder members will be those who qualify for becoming member and have actively participated in the formation of society.
4.3 Associate Members: Representatives of commercial companies can become an Associate member. Associate Members cannot attend the Business meetings and do not have voting right. Applicants are required to submit a CV with the membership application.
4.4 Emeritus members: Emeritus members are those members who were active members for at least 5 years or served in previous Executive Council or have outstanding contributions in the field of HSCT. They must be ≥ 65 years of age.
4.5 Honorary Members: Honorary members shall be those who have distinguished services for the cause of medicine/HSCT
4.6 Secretariat and PBMT Registry: Secretariat and PBMT Registry will be based at National Institute of Blood and Marrow Transplant (NIBMT) AFBMTC Rawalpindi, Pakistan.
4.7 The Executive Committee: The Executive Committee shall be the supreme decision-making body in PBMT. Each center will nominate one member for the executive committee. Centers with transplant volume of more than fifty per year will have two members in the Executive Committee. All decisions in the committee will be made by consensus or majority vote. Each member or his designated substitute from the concerned center will have right to vote. The names of the members of executive committee will be updated annually. The President of PBMT, who also serves as the Chairman of the Executive Committee, has the deciding vote if the vote is otherwise tied.
New Executive Committee members need approval of the Current Executive Committee. A proposed new member must provide a brief CV. The criteria to be an Executive Committee Member include proven medical and/or scientific experience in HSCT; willingness to participate in scientific activities of the PBMT; no criminal record and good ethical and moral standards as expected by professional societies.
The Executive Committee has the following rights and obligations:
a. To elect Office Bearers
b. To decide on admission of new members
c. To decide the annual fee for PBMT membership
d. To make decision on PBMT policies
4.8 Office Bearers: The office bearers of PBMT shall consist of President, President Elect and Secretary/Treasurer. The office bearers will be responsible for the group administration and all decisions that need to be taken for functioning of the organization in accordance with the constitution and bylaws of the organization. They are responsible for all running operations and implement the decisions of the Executive Committee. The office bearers, appointed by the Executive Committee, will act on behalf of all members for regular decisions during the period between Committee meetings. During this period, the Executive Committee need not be consulted unless a decision would affect the bylaws or contravene a decision previously made by the Committee.
4.9 President: The president elect will automatically assume office on completion of term of previous president. The term of President will start on 1st January and will be two years. A member can hold the office of president for a maximum of two terms. The function of the president is to promote and coordinate all activities of PBMT. These include fund raising, coordination of Working Group activities, giving suggestions to the organizers of the annual meeting, and negotiations with other organizations on behalf of PBMT.
4.10 President Elect: President Elect will be elected by members of the executive committee by a majority vote. He will automatically become president on completion of the term of the president. A member can be elected as president elect for a maximum of two terms.
4.11 Secretary/Treasurer: The secretary/treasurer will be elected from the members by a majority vote. The term of the office of secretary/treasurer will be for two years and he/she will assume office on 1st January. Secretary/ Treasurer shall oversee the maintenance of a permanent record of PBMT. He/she shall have oversight of the budget of PBMT and will work for the development and the maintenance of the group with the president of PBMT, the Chairman of the next annual congress, and the members of Executive Committee.
